LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday inaugurated Pakistan’s first fully electric sweeper truck for cleaning roads.
According to the Punjab government handout, the chief minister inspected the truck and watched it work before being briefed on the first electric sweeper project.
The handout said the electro-mechanical sweeper truck would clean and wash the Lahore Ring Road and could also absorb standing water from the road.
The briefing put the machine’s range at up to 70 kilometres on a single charge.
According to the briefing, the truck’s zero carbon emissions would cut environmental pollution and reduce dust on the roads.
The handout said the sweeper’s lower noise would also help reduce noise pollution.
It added that the electric sweeper would end heavy fuel and maintenance costs.
