  • Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen says the project sets a practical example of eco-friendly systems in educational institutions.

FAISALABAD: Government College Women University Faisalabad has completed an eco-friendly project to recycle used ablution water, turning it into a resource for irrigation and cleaning across the campus.

The project was completed under the eco-friendly vision of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz). It aims to save underground water and electricity through practical steps on campus.

Under the project, used water from the women’s ablution area adjacent to the mosque is collected in an underground RCC tank. The tank has a capacity of about 21,500 litres.

The recycled water is now used to irrigate nearby lawns and green areas. It is also used to wash paths and roads inside the university.

This has reduced the need to extract fresh underground water for gardening and cleaning purposes. The university says the step will help conserve water and reduce wastage.

A notable feature of the project is saving electricity. A mono-block pump using 2 ampere supplies the recycled water, while the double impeller pump used to draw fresh water from about 130 feet deep consumes 4.5 ampere.

Through this system, electricity consumption for gardening has dropped by at least 55 percent. The university had earlier taken up sustainability initiatives with other Faisalabad universities.

Under the leadership of VC Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen, such steps mark progress toward eco-friendly practices, careful water use and energy saving at the university. The project also presents a practical example of adopting sustainable and environment-friendly systems in educational institutions.
