FAISALABAD: Rodala Road police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a man for allegedly shooting a father and his son. Both men were injured in the September firing near a container rest area on Multan Road.

A police spokesman said SHO Rodala Road Muhammad Gulzar Hussain had arrested the accused, Amir Hamza. He said further legal proceedings against the arrested man had begun.

According to FIR No 565/26, the accused is Hamza, son of Aurangzeb alias Ranga, a resident of Chak 276 GB. The case was registered at the Rodala Road police station under section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code for attempted murder.

The FIR says the complainant’s elder brother, Zafar Iqbal, a container driver, had parked at the Tali Wala rest area a day earlier. The accused exchanged harsh words with him there and threatened to deal with him on his return.

The complainant, Muhammad Afraim of Chak 277 GB, says the family was walking to the container on Sept 7 to see Zafar off. Seeing Zafar among them, the accused opened fire at him with a 12-bore repeater.

According to the FIR, the shot hit Khan Bahadur in the left side of the abdomen. His son Anas was hit in the chest and the right cheek, while Zafar Iqbal escaped unhurt.

The FIR says the accused tried to fire a second time, but the weapon misfired and he fled while issuing threats.

The injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Jaranwala for treatment. The FIR names Muhammad Tayyab as an eyewitness to the firing.

The CPO said the arrested man would be given due punishment on the basis of solid evidence. He said accused who endanger citizens’ lives deserve no leniency.
