FAISALABAD: Gold prices in Faisalabad fell sharply on Friday as the price of 24-karat gold dropped to Rs429,136 per tola after a fall of Rs6,500 during the day.

According to the Sarafa Association, the local market followed the international market. International gold fell by $65 to $4,066 per ounce.

The fall reversed part of the sharp gains of the past two days. Gold had risen by Rs23,500 per tola on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Thursday, the price of 24-karat gold had risen by Rs9,600 to Rs435,636 per tola. Ten grams of 24-karat gold had cost Rs373,487 on Thursday.

Friday’s fall of Rs5,573 took the ten-gram price to Rs367,914.

Twenty-two-karat gold, which is widely used for jewellery, cost Rs393,375 per tola. Twenty-one-karat gold cost Rs375,494 per tola and 18-karat gold cost Rs321,852 per tola.

The sharp fall follows a volatile week for gold. Prices had fallen in late October before climbing for two days.

Traders said international cues remain the main driver of local prices.

Faisalabad follows the national Sarafa rate, so buyers in the city pay the same metal price as buyers in other cities. Jewellers may add making charges and the final bill can differ from shop to shop.
