FAISALABAD: Women Police Station has arrested a man for allegedly beating his sister-in-law and children over a house dispute.

According to the Faisalabad police handout, the accused, Usman, had beaten his sister-in-law Shehzadi and her children at her house, out of greed to seize the property.

The spokesman said SHO Women Police Station Asma Kanwal arrested Usman, adding that legal proceedings had been initiated against him.

According to the FIR registered at the Women Police Station, the case was lodged on Shehzadi’s written complaint on August 21, naming Nadir Parvez and six others as the accused.

The FIR says the assault took place at Shehzadi’s house in Kareem City, about seven kilometres north of the police station, at about 11am on July 29.

It says the accused entered the house together and abused the woman. The first accused grabbed her by the hair, dragged her and beat her.

The FIR says three of her garments were torn and her children were also beaten. It says the accused wanted to throw the woman and her children out of the house and seize it.

It says neighbours who witnessed the assault rescued the woman. According to the FIR, Rescue 15 was called to the scene and the local police arrived and inspected the spot.

“Violence against women will not be tolerated in any way.”

The FIR says the dispute is over a house in Kareem City from her husband’s inherited property, of which the accused gave her only a two-and-a-half-marla house. It says they had already taken half a marla of it in their own name.

The FIR carries sections 354, 148 and 147 of the Pakistan Penal Code. It says ASI Muhammad Imran of the Women Police Station is investigating the case.

Section 354 of the Penal Code covers assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, while sections 147 and 148 cover rioting and rioting armed with a deadly weapon.

The spokesman said CPO Faisalabad had made it clear: “Violence against women will not be tolerated in any way.”
