LAHORE: A peace walk and thanksgiving rally praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for a United States-Iran ceasefire.

According to the organisers’ handout, Help for Women and Child Organisation Pakistan and Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians arranged the walk to spread a message of peace while war threatened. The rally followed the announcement of a ceasefire.

The handout described the walk as the first of its kind in the world, held to press for an end to the danger of war between the United States and Iran and for lasting global peace.

Muhammad Ramzan Mayo, president of the organisation and vice-president of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians Punjab, said Pakistan had played a historic diplomatic role in reducing the danger of war and securing a ceasefire.

According to Mr Mayo, the president, the prime minister and the chief of army staff worked tirelessly for peace at a most delicate time.

Mr Mayo said the leadership had shown wisdom, patience and diplomatic insight in seeking to save the world from a destructive war. He added that the nation took pride in this peaceful and friendly role of its leadership.

He warned that failure to observe the agreement fully despite the ceasefire remained a cause for concern. He urged the United States, Iran and all other parties to implement the ceasefire terms in full, avoid provocation and settle disputes through talks.

Mr Mayo appealed to the United Nations and the international community to recognise Pakistan’s peace efforts at the global level. He said all world powers should choose peace, love, tolerance and talks over war, destruction and hatred.
