LAHORE: Thousands of Punjab students will start receiving electric bikes from tomorrow as distribution under the second phase of the Chief Minister’s E-Bike Scheme begins on Thursday, November 5.
The chief minister announced the November 5 date last month, saying the larger share of the bikes would go to female students. The scheme is run through the Bank of Punjab, with the provincial government paying the markup on the instalments.
Why There Is a Ballot
Demand has far outrun supply. Registrations crossed 1.3 million by the October 4 deadline, with more than 600,000 completed applications chasing 100,000 bikes.
Eligible applicants will therefore be selected through computerised balloting. No official date for the ballot has been announced yet. Students should treat dates circulating on social media with caution.
What Students Pay
Selected students pay no down payment. The monthly instalment is about Rs 3,028, with the government paying the markup. A capital subsidy of Rs 90,000 per bike brings the price down further.
Pink for Girls, Black for Boys
Girls will receive pink bikes and boys black bikes under the phase’s colour scheme.
Girls will receive pink bikes and boys black bikes under the phase’s colour scheme.
Students who do not know how to ride will receive two days of free driving training under the scheme. The training is part of the programme, so new riders do not have to arrange it themselves.
How to Check Your Status
- Open the official portal (bikes.punjab.gov.pk).
- Check your application status with the CNIC you applied with.
- Follow the official notification for balloting results, financing documents and collection arrangements.
What Faisalabad Students Should Know
No district-by-district delivery schedule has been released yet, so no separate Faisalabad date exists at this stage. Faisalabad’s applicants are part of the same province-wide pool. Selected students here will be informed through the portal and their institutions, including Government College University Faisalabad.
The week is a busy one for Punjab students: applications for the Honhaar Scholarship also close on November 9.
