FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has ordered a tougher region-wide campaign against electricity theft. The drive brings stricter checking and legal action against everyone involved in stealing power.
The orders came from FESCO Chief Executive Engineer Abid Rasheed, who directed field staff to make checking more effective across the region.
According to the FESCO statement, no leniency will be shown during the campaign. No pressure or recommendation will be entertained either, it added.
In the chief executive’s words, electricity theft is a cancer for the nation. It damages the economy, while honest bill-payers suffer its effects.
Illegal connections and wrong tariff use overload transformers and feeders, causing faults, low voltage and outages. Kunda hooks and tampering with meters also endanger life and property.
Field staff have been directed to check industrial, commercial and agricultural connections and metering regularly. Teams will act on the spot wherever theft is found.
Domestic connections will also be checked under the campaign. Faulty meters are to be replaced promptly, with no pending faulty-meter case left unresolved.

The statement also warned FESCO’s own employees against any role in theft. Those found involved, or helping others steal, face departmental and legal action.
Officers have been asked to review the campaign’s progress regularly.
The company has appealed to the public to report electricity theft and illegal connections on helpline 118 or at the FESCO office.
