Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh said the potential smog season is almost here. The Environmental Protection Agency and all relevant departments are active 24/7 in the field to ensure citizens breathe clean air and stay safe from diseases.

He said he reviews EPA progress every week. Farmers are being persuaded not to burn crop residue but to use super seeders instead. Targets have been assigned to village numberdars and agriculture officers in this regard.

The Commissioner said steps are underway to provide medical facilities at hospitals instead of referring patients elsewhere. Measures are also continuing to prevent diseases among labourers working in industrial units.

He said a campaign has started to keep blades and other instruments separate at hairdresser shops and dispose them properly so they cannot be reused. This will help prevent hepatitis and other dangerous diseases.
