In Faisalabad’s crowded neighbourhoods, where the hum of powerlooms and the Clock Tower’s bustling markets rarely pause, another story quietly unfolds—one far removed from the city’s industrial pride.

Young boys and dazed men linger outside colleges and drift around at different spots. Drug addiction in Faisalabad, once talked about quietly, is now tightening its grip on the city.

It shows a growing divide in society, badly hitting families and overwhelming rehabilitation centers and wards.

Drug Addiction in Faisalabad: Causes and Impact

The menace is rising rapidly in Faisalabad, especially among young people. The major reason is that illegal drugs are easily available, which speaks volumes about the effectiveness of state-run departments.

Medical professionals warn that if drug addiction is not addressed, it can lead to serious health problems, mental illness and even death.

They also noted that mental health and drug addiction are closely linked, making treatment even more difficult.

Common Drugs and Their Effects on Youth

The most commonly used drugs include heroin, ice, opium, and hashish. Other substances, including cigarettes, tobacco and electronic smoking devices are also dangerous.

It has been observed that these products are causing smoking problems in teenagers and youth that can lead to tobacco-related illness and lung damage.

Many children and teenagers start using these harmful substances at a very early age, unaware that such habits only lead to sickness, suffering and sometimes death.

It has been observed that addicts often steal items to sell. They steal things just to make money to buy drugs. Their habits are not only destroying their own future but also affecting the lives of their families.

They even remove live electricity wires, manhole lids and iron safety railings from roads, contributing to numerous accidents across the city every day. Their harmful actions are causing stress and posing a danger to the lives of the general public, particularly their families.

Family Challenges and Mental Health Concerns

Hospitals and rehab centers in Faisalabad are awash with addicts, highlighting how dangerous this problem has become for the younger generation in the district.

Psychologists are of the view that many people start using drugs due to family problems, stress about their future, social pressure or bad company. They said that families suffer a lot when one member becomes addicted.

Sometimes they scold or treat the addict strictly, but their real aim is to improve the person’s mental and physical health. The drug addiction damages a person both internally and externally, they added.

Sensing the rising number of addicts, they stressed the need for setting up more rehabilitation centers in Faisalabad to address the addiction cases. Addicted people can be seen in many parts of the city.

They often gather near schools, colleges, hospitals and other public areas, contributing to the growing presence of drug users in public places.

Role of Rehabilitation Centers in Faisalabad

Although the district police Faisalabad is active to move against drug dealers, however, these networks continue to expand, allegedly with the connivance of some negative elements within the police department.

People stressed that a massive crackdown on drug peddlers is the need of the hour to reduce drug-related crime in Faisalabad.

Awareness campaigns, education and strict enforcement of law can promote drug awareness in Pakistan and support rehabilitation efforts.
