Faisalabad’s air quality is expected to deteriorate overnight as calm winds and rising humidity trap pollutants near the ground.
The city’s Air Quality Index stood at 126 on Tuesday afternoon, in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” range, with fine particulate matter (PM2.5) the primary pollutant, according to Weather.com data. Conditions were recorded as “Smoke”.
Forecast data shows winds staying calm through the night, humidity climbing above 80 per cent by early morning and no rain expected over the next 48 hours. Smog cover is forecast to persist over the city on Wednesday and Thursday.
Under these conditions, The Grand Lines estimates that the AQI may climb into the 150 to 180 range (Unhealthy) by Wednesday morning, before easing slightly as light south-easterly winds pick up during the day.
Residents, especially children, the elderly and asthma patients, are advised to limit early-morning outdoor activity and wear a mask outside.
