LAHORE– The Punjab government has invited chambers of commerce from across the province—as well as from Karachi, Peshawar, and other regions—to participate in the first-ever Women Expo, where more than 600 women entrepreneurs will receive free display space and stalls.
Ms. Sadia Taimur, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Women Development Department (WDD), told Grand Lines that Punjab is ready to launch its most extensive initiative for women entrepreneurs, with the province set to hold a first-of-its-kind Women Expo Punjab next year.
She said that the provincial government has chalked out a comprehensive plan to provide a fully funded platform for 600 women-led businesses in Pakistan to showcase their businesses, receive women entrepreneurship professional training and connect with national and international markets.
She added that the event aligns with the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, who is striving a lot to create more opportunities for women to build sustainable livelihoods.
A Platform Women Never Had Before
The Parliamentary Secretary said that the Women Expo Punjab was conceptualized after concerns were raised that business chambers traditionally extend strong support to men but offer limited encouragement to women entrepreneurs.
Many women who develop their own brands or small crafts have historically lacked an affordable platform to showcase their skills and work.
She said that high participation fees—such as Rs. 5,000 for a basic bench space or up to Rs. 200,000 for a stall at major exhibitions—have discouraged many talented women from entering the market. The upcoming expo aims to eliminate this barrier by offering a professional, zero-cost platform for women to present their ideas and products, she added.
Budget, Timeline, and Preparations
Dr. Usman Ali, secretary of the WDD, said that the bidding process has been completed, and a formal work order has been issued.
The expo will take place from January 6 to January 10 and will span three expo halls, accommodating 600 women entrepreneurs.
Ms. Sadia, highlighting the key features of the event, said that no participation fee will be charged from women. Stalls will be provided free of cost and the department will also set up the entire stalls for participants.
She said that training and mentorship sessions have been arranged to guide women on branding, business-to-business engagement and transitioning from beginners to mentors. A clear criterion has been established for the selection of participants.
“We’ve also extended an open invitation to women from other provinces, offering free stalls to delegations from the Karachi and Peshawar Chambers. In addition, international delegations have been invited to broaden global exposure and strengthen networking opportunities,” she remarked.
She said that interest in the event has surged rapidly. Within just two days, 400 women registered for stalls and online registration will remain open until December 10.
Awareness and Complementary Initiatives
The department has launched a province-wide awareness campaign to promote participation, supported by the complete digitization of the project.
A pre-expo session is planned to brief members of the Punjab Assembly Standing Committee on Women Development about the expo’s objectives, progress and wider impact.
Additionally, the Women Development Department has established a permanent display center at the Maryam Nawaz Women Complex. This center will serve as an ongoing showcase for women’s brands, helping them maintain visibility even after the expo concludes.
A Launchpad for Women Entrepreneurs
The Women Expo is designed to become a long-term launchpad for women across Punjab—similar to how farmers’ markets provide small vendors with their first real opportunity to reach the public.
By removing financial barriers and offering professional mentorship, the initiative aims to bring women-led businesses into the commercial mainstream, Ms Sadia added.
