Rida Zahra, a student of Information Technology, is very happy with the electric bus project in Faisalabad, saying that the long wait of the people of the district is finally over.

She added that for girl students, reaching their institutions was a daunting task, as family members had to spare special time to provide them pick-and-drop facilities.

Now, female students can commute timely, easily and safely with this reliable travel system. The traditional local transport system including buses, motorcycle rickshaws and other vehicles, was costly, having no value for the precious time of travelers.

Women were not comfortable with these sources of transport– thanks to the Chief Minister of Punjab, who ensured state-of-the-art facilities for them.

She termed the Faisalabad electric bus a new eco-friendly era in public transport. ‘We can now commute easily without any hesitation or stress,’ she remarked.”

Government Initiative and Inauguration

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, inaugurated the project on September 29.

Citizens of Faisalabad are very happy because of this initiative, as the unbridled inflation is making it hard for them to travel, even in search of their livelihoods.

The Punjab government provided 150 eco-friendly buses for Faisalabad division including 90 buses for Faisalabad, 30 for district Jhang, 15 for district Chiniot and 15 for district Toba Take Singh.

As a goodwill gesture, the CM Punjab announced free of cost travelling for women, students, aged and for special persons for a few days. The passengers will pay only Rs20 to reach their destination.

Benefits for Workers and Citizens

Ahmed Raza, a factory worker, told Grandlines that the public transport facility is crucial for the people of Faisalabad, particularly for the workers who are struggling with inflation and low wages.

He said that the electric bus service in Faisalabad is undoubtedly a blessing, as it will help them save their hard-earned money previously spent on costly transport.

“A number of workers have no option but to work near their homes for low salaries because they lack proper conveyance or cannot meet the public transport expenses,” he explained.

Environmental and Economic Impact

Riaz Shahid, a businessman, said that the polluted environment of the district is wreaking havoc on the health and businesses of the people of Faisalabad. For several years, the factory owners, traders and even vendors have had to curtail their working hours to mitigate the negative impact of smog.

“It is the need of the hour to introduce an eco-friendly transport system to make our environment cleaner and safe for public health,” he added.

He said that we must appreciate the Punjab government for launching the eco-friendly transport system in different districts, which will ultimately help clean the environment.

Strengthening the Community and Economy

“It’s also beneficial for strengthening our economy, creating jobs and ensuring a healthy life for the people of Faisalabad.

Reduced consumption of fuel will surely lower our reliance on imported fuel, which strains our financial reserves,” Mr. Riaz added.
